Presentations!!!

Time : 12.09 AM
Date : 17th March 10
Place: Mumbai

Heyaaaaa... ( Dipeesh and Ashish didnt like the "hellozz" in the last blog.. :P)

This week is almost halfway through by the time I realise that a new week has started. Time reli Flies doesn't it? It seemed like a week back that i celebrated new year's eve with my wife and more than couple of months have flown by. This week brings with it the biggest pain in the ass of MBA course- Presentations for internal assessment.

Its always said that MBA is all about giving presentations improving interpersonal skills, communication skills etc. But when you actually get into MBA you realise that this mess is more messy than you had imagined. Just figure this out by yourself,

-11 subjects in a semester,
-internal assesments for all of them,
-Disintersted professors for most of the subjects,
and the most demotivating factor... Everyone gets almost the same marks irrespective of whatever you blabber!!!!

You know that one thing I used to worry about was would i be able to speak in front of the crowd?? Or will my vocabulary and whatever little knowledge I have desert me at the time i need it the most?? The reason was not lack of confidence, but the fact that i had never spoken on a stage yet. Add to it projectors and powerpoint ppts and it got even more challenging in my imagination. But then GOOD LUCK prevailed and i've managed to sail through the mini crisis that i had in my mind back in semester 1. Now things are totally different-- Give me any topic, any audience, any day, any time and I'll handle it. Do u think its good for me?? I dont think so.. The reason is I am used to people who are either not interested in the topic or they dont know anything about the topic, they are discouraged to ask questions due to lack of time and people who really prepare well and try to educate the crowd are told to hurry up. What we get in bargain is underprepared presenter and a totally out of sync audience which is busy in socializing on thier laptops instead to listening to the crowd.

Will the corporate world accept such half baked cookies?? Are they goin to be satisfied with people who have fake confidence and no real knowledge which can pack a punch instead of their sparkling cufflings and tie-pins?? But who cares?? Absolutely no one.. So things go on as they have been for all this while and its time for the next year's admission where the same thing will be repeated.

Also.. A news report this morning completely baffled me.. "GOVT GREEN SIGNALS FORIEGN UNIVERSITIES IN INDIA" with a beaming smile on Mr Kapil Sibal's face. The same government had ordered to shut down the campus of Northumbria University where I had taken admission like a fool without enquiring about things. Was left stranded in 3rd year and lost a year because of a case being filed by the students in the Supreme Court. God bless Indian democracy!!!

So I've 7-8 presentations in the next 2 weeks with mostly the same friends in my group. Everyone will try to do something on thier own and when everything else fails, will turn to Google and download something already created by someone else and vomit it in front of a half sleepy crowd... DONT WORRY ABOUT THE MARKS !!!

Lets see.... (searching, searching, searching...) yesssss!!!! Downloaded a readymade presentation.. 6 more to go!!!!

Signing off :)

  4. Amazing post Ameya... Good you changed d Hellozz.. :P

Well I dont completely agree with you on dis (though most of what is written there often goes thru my mind too)

Its true that most presentations we do is Ctrl C and Ctrl V but not ALL... I still remember u saying after your HOME GYM presentation that Danm!! no one asked me a question... Well I guess that was not Ctrl C and V.. That was a result of brainstorming..

Same was my case when we completed with Airbus...I guess even our business plan was a result of our own thinking...If asked to present that we would love to...

So I guess 1 such presentation and project each sem would serve our purpose...

Note the above opinion is personal :P

  6. Hmmm ya but 2 lakhs is for d degree...This will help us in climbing the ladder in the org we ll work for...

Rest its on us...Infact I would say coz dese profs in ADMIS suck...It gives us leverage to decide on our own topics and research on it as deeply as possible...

But we dont do it is a different story.. :P

  7. I pretty much agree with dipesh re... what u r saying is a very generalistic view. but really do u not think anything extra has come to u in the past few months while working with people in class?? if not, then dude it's time u start changing who u work with!!!! LOLZ...
and about the audience bit... we are very much a part of the audience we crib about!!!

nice attempt at blogging though... keep it coming!!!! it's something i have been thinking of since very long too. good luck...
